James and I would meet up at various BBC management get-togethers over the years ,he as boss of BBC H&W, me in a similar position at Radio Lincolnshire, and it was always good to get into James's group on the "naughty table". He always had a good story to tell and was suitably sceptical about the latest corporate wheeze being handed down from on high. Funny, intelligent and passionate about radio, James was just good fun to be around. When he retired ,I missed him a lot, and the news of his death has shaken me. We've lost one of the good guys.
